Located in Cape Perpetua Scenic Area near Yachats, Thor's Well is a large bowl-shaped rock formation along the rocky shore that acts as a drain, swallowing the ocean water that floods it during high tide.

As the tide rises, waves surge into the rocky well, completely filling it and creating a temporary circular pond. When the tide recedes, the ocean water violently empties from the well's narrow drain, creating a dramatic vortex and spray effects.

Thor’s Well epitomizes the untamable natural forces constantly at work reshaping the coastline. Brace against ocean gusts to observe the cycling between tranquil inlet and explosive discharge of each tide. It's an iconic Oregon coastal experience.

What You Need to Know: Thor’s Well is best seen at mid to high tide. While mesmerizing, stay well clear of the dangerous edges. There are no railings or barriers.
